Brief History The Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth was founded in 1938 by Grand Rapids Superintendent of Police, Frank J. O'Malley with the purpose that police police officers would have daily interactions with kids from the inner city of Grand Rapids through police-directed recreation and education activities. In 2007, the Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth received the Boys & Girls Clubs charter for Grand Rapids. Now, the organization's name is The Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth. This is the organization that operates Camp O'Malley. Camp O'Malley was opened for the first time in 1939. There are two Boys & Girls Clubs in Grand Rapids where kids ages 8-18 are able to visit daily after school.
Our Mission To build the character of youth through recreation, education, and positive community experiences in cooperation with the Grand Rapids Police Department.
